Mean Bean: Origins
AKA... About Mean Bean Productions Chapter I: The Birth of a Bean

It all started when we (Melanie Lech and Alex Bradford Cobb) were 22-year-old collegiate goons.  We'd been collaborating on funny videos for friends, freelance work for clients, and professional work for Appalachian State University for nearly a year when it occurred to us that we should come up with a name for the credits other than "Melanie Lech and Alex Bradford Cobb."

The decision was made: we would build a brand not only for our video services, but also for our own original content going forward.

We sit down one fateful day in High Point to decide upon a name.  "Party Tardy Productions," you see, isn't going to cut it forever.  It has been late to the party one too many times.

"We should do something with beans," Melanie says.  Alex, accepting of this suggestion, adds that it needs to be an alliteration or rhyme.  "Mean Beans," he suggests.  But wait--let's make it singular, we think.  "Mean Bean."  Our hearts skip a beat.

And thus, in the winter months of 2016, "Mean Bean Productions" is born.

Mean Bean Productions' official launch is on February 3rd, 2017 and its growth is rapid.

Chapter II: Ying and Yang

Mean Bean has quite a run juggling original content creation with professional services.  These gigs range from photography to videography to multimedia work.

Notable clients include NASCAR's Roush Fenway Racing, John Deere, Oscar Mayer, and Zombie Beds.

Success, struggles, success, 100x more struggles, some big wins, etc. etc., happen.  Creatively, we have some victories and promising feedback from established, talented professionals that serve as great pick-me-ups in the crossfire.

We forge relationships with companies like Myriad Media, Sofar Sounds Charlotte, ScrewUp TV Productions, and more.

Chapter III: Something's Not Right

However, with more and more gigs trending in the direction of corporate and serious, it becomes clear that Mean Bean's mission and the professional work we're cranking out just don't go hand-in-hand.

So, sometime around 2019, we break from the shackles and direct all professional work to Melanie Lech Multimedia so that, on our Mean Bean platforms, we can pursue insanity to the umpteenth degree as originally intended.

Chapter IV: Now It's Right/The Upward Spiral

2020 is a year of prosperity and growth for the Bean.  We expand our team, double or even triple the amount of content we're putting out, see upward trends in engagement, and finally start winning some money from video contests!!!

It is a wonderful time to be a bean, but there is more to be done.  And thus, the story continues...

Mission

Our mission?  To revolutionize the way we eat falafel.  To annihilate anyone in our paths.  To create humanity's premiere comedy video production specializing in:

  • the witty,
  • the clever,
  • the edgy,
  • the over-the-top,
  • the perfectionism and ridiculously high standards only your mother-in-law could have with the quirky humor and laugh-out-loud sensibilities your dad thinks he has,
  • the FUNNY.

To entertain!  And somethingsomething profit so it's sustainable.
